IOC Discussing Recommendations to More Olympic Events

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, August 11. THE Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will meet on Thursday in Berlin, Germany. Among the items the Board will discuss are the recommendations for changes to the Olympic program for 2016. This includes the Board making a recommendation of what 2 sports to add for the 2016 Games.

The Board will also review requests from the various international federations on certain sport-related event additions/changes for the 2012 Olympics in London.

FINA has submitted the following requests for additions related to aquatics for 2012:
-the 50s of strokes, the men's 800 free and the women's 1500 free (42 total events)
-add 4 teams to women's water polo (changing total to 12)
-add 4 teams to synchronized swimming (changing total to 12)
-add free combination to synchronized swimming
