USA Swimming Sectionals, Gainesville: Teresa Crippen Doubles, Breaks Another 26-Year-Old Tracy Caulkins Meet Record

GAINESVILLE, Florida, July 19. THE final day of long course meter swimming featured two more victories for Germantown's Teresa Crippen at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Gainesville. She also eclipsed another of Tracy Caulkins' meet records set back in 1983.

Crippen lowered the women's 200 back meet record during prelims. She clocked 2:11.10 in prelims to beat Margaret Hoelzer's 2006 mark of 2:13.20. Crippen returned in finals with a 2:11.77, just missing her newly-minted time. Sarasota's Corinne Showalter wound up second in 2:17.45, while Club Seminole's Holly Mills placed third in 2:19.08. Daytona Beach's Rex Tullius claimed the men's 200 back in 1:58.54. The Bolles' Colin Hamilton took second in 2:05.88, while Area Tallahassee's Joe Ziegler pocketed third in 2:06.67.

Crippen knocked down another 26-year-old Tracy Caulkins record in the women's 200 fly. During prelims, Crippen posted a 2:11.94 to smash Caulkins' 1983 mark of 2:13.46. Crippen settled for the win in the finale with a 2:12.39. West Florida's Katie Kastes took second in 2:13.31, while Florida's Kaitlin Taylor finished third in 2:18.64. The Bolles' Gustavo Calado placed first in the men's 200 fly with a 2:02.53. Greater Philadelphia's Michael Joyce finished second in 2:03.93, while Area Tallahassee's Hunter Hinson finished third in 2:04.87.

Hopkins Mariner's Margaux Farrell topped the women's 100 free in 56.88, while Saint Petersburg's Kaitlin Frehling claimed second in 57.11. Area Tallahassee's Alex Merritt finished third in 57.41. Florida's Conor Dwyer grabbed the men's 100 free in 50.45. Indian River's James Turner finished second in 51.87, touching out Florida's Scott Sommer (51.88).

Gator's Jamie Bohunicky snagged the women's 800 free title in 8:52.44. Swim Orlando's Katherine Woolbright took second in 8:53.28 with West Florida's Claire Thompson taking third in 9:00.35. Corvallis' Logan Storie won the men's 1500 free in 15:26.11. The Bolles' Ryan Arabejo finished second in 15:41.41 with Berkeley's Jon Jordan capturing third in 15:49.92.

Gator's Angela Ballatore won the women's 200 breast in 2:32.98. Fast Lane's Lysis Halkides picked up second in 2:33.24, while The Bolles' Alyssa Bodin touched third in 2:42.77. Swim Florida's Robert Kennedy claimed the men's 200 breast with a 2:23.04 in finals after clocking a 2:22.00 in prelims. The Bolles' Carlos Sierra finished second in 2:24.85 with Joyce placing third in 2:25.09.
