European Junior Championships: Final Day Features More Records

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, July 12. THE last day of competition at the European Junior Championships featured even more continental junior marks.

France's Yannick Agnel downed the Euro Junior mark in the men's 200 free with a 1:47.02. Russia's Daniil Izotov finished second in 1:47.77, while Russia's Artem Lobuzov took third in 1:49.18.

Italy's Ilaria Scarcella touched out Spain's Marina Garcia Urzainqui, 1:07.49 to 1:07.63, for the women's 100 breast title and Euro Junior standard. Greece's Maria Michalaka and Poland's Paulina Zachoszcz tied for third with matching 1:09.19s.

Italy's Andrea Toniato won the men's 100 breast in Euro Junior record of 1:00.97. Russia's Alexander Triznov (1:01.63) and Maxim Shcherbakov (1:01.70) finished second and third.

In the women's 50 fly semis, Italy's Silvia Di Pietro lowered the Euro Junior record with a 26.38. She returned with another record time of 26.33 in finals for the win. Germany's Lena Kalla (26.74) and Cyprus' Anna Schoholeva (27.10) touched second and third.

In other finals action, Ukraine's Daryna Zevina won the women's 100 back in 1:01.49. Sweden's Sarah Sjoestroem placed second in 1:02.91 with Poland's Klaudia Nazieblo taking third in 1:02.93.

Ireland's Grainne Murphy snared the women's 200 IM title in 2:14.22. Great Britain's Aimee Willmott finished second in 2:15.89 with Italy's Stefania Pirozzi placing third in 2:16.11.

Poland's Marcin Cieslak captured the men's 100 fly in 53.00 with Hungary's Bence Pulai (53.02) and Germany's Philip Heintz (53.46) finishing second and third.

Meanwhile, Hungary's Dominik Kozma won the men's 50 free in 22.33. Italy's Fabio Gimondi (22.61) and Switzerland's Erik Van Dooren (22.65) completed the podium.

Roberto Pavoni of Great Britain topped the men's 400 IM in 4:17.27. Hungary's Gergely Gyurta (4:18.62) and Zsombor Szana (4:19.43) wound up second and third.
