World University Games, Swimming: Ryosuke Irie Clocks Another 52 in 100 Back Leadoff on Final Day

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 11.The final day of swimming at the World University Games concluded with several more strong swims on display.

Women's 50 free finals
Belarus' Aleksandra Gerasimenya cleared 25 seconds for the win with a time of 24.62. The performance beat her national record of 24.72 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Germany's Dorothea Brandt claimed silver in 25.03, while Michelle King of the U.S. snared bronze in 25.10.

Men's 50 free finals
Italy's Andrea Rolla touched out France's Boris Steimetz and Sergey Fesikov for the win. Rolla stopped the clock in 22.16, while Steimetz and Fesikov tied for second with matching 22.19s.

Women's 50 breast finals
Russia's Daria Deeva walked out with the sprint breast crown with a time of 31.55. Korea's Dal Eun Kim placed second in 31.57, while Poland's Ewa Scieszko completed the top three in 31.63.

Women's 200 fly finals
Germany's Annika Mehlhorn claimed the title in 2:07.35 with Lyndsay De Paul of the U.S. snagging silver in 2:09.89. Japan's Haruka Minamizono rounded out the podium in 2:10.01.

Men's 400 IM finals
Poland's Mateusz Matczak touched out Alex Vanderkaay of the U.S., 4:12.28 to 4:12.48. Both swims cleared the Games record of 4:12.94 set by Pat Mellors back in 2007. Japan's Yuya Horihata wound up third in 4:15.26. Matczak's time cleared his national mark of 4:14.12 set in May 2009.

Women's 400 free finals
Canada's Kevyn Peterson led start-to-finish with a top time of 4:10.01 for the middle distance win. Kristen Heiss of the U.S. placed second in 4:11.30, while South Africa's Leone Vorster touched out Hungary's Mariann Farkas, 4:13.18 to 4:13.25, for third place.

Women's 400 medley relay
The U.S. foursome of Lauren Rogers, Katy Freeman, Amanda Sims and Madison Kennedy set a Games record with a 4:01.90. The time beat the 4:03.11 set by Japan back in 2007. Italy's Elena Gemo, Chiara Boggiatto, Cristina Maccagnola and Erica Buratto finished second in 4:02.75, while Russia's Ksenia Moskvina, Daria Deeva, Svetlana Fedulova and Svetlana Karpeeva placed third in 4:03.89.

Men's 400 medley relay
Japan's Ryosuke Irie dropped a 52.75 leadoff 100 back as the team of Irie, Hiromasa Sakimoto, Shimpei Irie and Rammaru Harada won in 3:32.80. Italy's Enrico Catalano, Fabio Scozzoli, Rudy Goldin and Vittorio Dinia took second in 3:35.75, while France's Eric Ress, Tony De Pellegrini, Cyril Marchant and Boris Steimetz claimed third in 3:38.31.

Three teams drew disqualifications as Great Britain, the U.S. and Canada each had their times eliminated due to infractions.
