Virginia’s Prichard Named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C., Jan. 29. UNIVERSITY of Virginia freshman Ian Prichard (Ventura, Calif./Buena) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week after helping lead the Cavaliers to a 162-118 victory over ACC rival Duke on Saturday, January 27. It is the second time this season Prichard has been named the ACC Men's Swimmer of
the Week as he also earned the honor on November 13, 2000.

Prichard set the ACC, school and pool records in winning the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:02.90 against Duke. He broke the former record of 9:04.76 set by Austin Ramirez at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in 1998 by nearly two seconds. Entering last weekend, only two NCAA Division I swimmers had recorded faster times in the 1000 free than Prichard's 9:02.90. Prichard also finished third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.91.

The 11th-ranked Virginia men's swimming and diving team improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the ACC with its win over Duke. The Cavaliers close out the dual meet portion of their schedule on Saturday, February 3, when they travel to College Park, Md. for a 1:00 p.m. meet against Maryland.
