July’s Q&A Interview Identifies Elements Of Success In High School Coaching

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 8. TO say coach Kevin Kinel has achieved great success in coaching high school swimmers would be an understatement. Kinel, who has coached at Chesterton High School in Indiana for 29 years, has compiled a truly remarkable record of achievement during his career.

In an interview in July's Swimming World, Kinel touches upon all the ingredients that go into building a successful program at the high school level. According to Kinel, the attributes of hard and intelligent work are very much at the core of developing a winning program.

Goal setting, program philosophy, specific training techniques and the issue of high school coaches sharing athletes with club coaches are covered in this interview.

Also included in the Swimming Technique section, Kinel provides insight into specific training and workout concepts in the How They Train piece on Kyle Whitaker, a national high school record holder at Chesterton High School.
