World University Games, Water Polo: Men Enter Classification Rounds

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 7. THE men's water polo tournament entered the classification rounds at the World University Games.

In the semifinal 13-16 matches, Canada topped Mexico, 10-8, while Poland downed China, 10-6.

John Kaukinen paced Canada with four goals, as the team went 10-for-26 from the field. Rainer Schmidt and Jorge Perez tallied two goals each for Mexico, which connected on 8 of 23 shots.

Poland's Wojciech Leszek collected four goals, while the team went 10-for-22. Chen Jilong notched two goals to lead China, which went 6-for-17.

Four top eight final matches took place as well.

Croatia beat Montenegro, 10-7. Domagoj Cule, Zeljko Kovacic and Marin Ban wound up with two goals each for Croatia, which converted on 10 of 33 shots. Filip Klikovac accounted for a hat trick for Montenegro, which went 7-for-29.

Greece clipped France, 7-5, in the next match. Georgios Papadopoulous and Ioannis Beristianos paced Greece with two goals. The Greeks went 7-for-25 from the field. Romain Harrissart and Yann Clay also accounted for two goals for France, with the French converting 5 of 26 shots.

In another close battle, Italy bested Japan, 13-11. Complete results from this match were unavailable. Meanwhile, the U.S. edged Spain, 10-8, in the last match. Thomas Hale and John Paul Mac Donell each notched two goals, while the U.S. went 10-for-25. Daniel Hernandez Murillo and Francisco Fernandez Miranda each had a hat trick for Spain, which converted on 8 of 28 shots.
