Iowa State Swimmers and Divers Receive Academic Honors

AMES, Iowa, July 2. THE College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced its Scholar All-Americans and Scholar All-American teams Thursday.

For the 20th consecutive season, the team has earned the honor of being named an Academic All-America team. The team obtained a 3.11 GPA for the Spring 2009 semester.

"It shows commitment not only in the pool but in the classroom," said head coach Duane Sorenson. "It is also a great honor for all of the teams that helped earn this honor the past 20 years."

Four Cyclone student-athletes earned honorable mention All-America honors. Lindsey Behrens, Marni Benson, Kali Fryklund and Lindsay Wegner earned the honors. This is the second time that Behrens, Benson and Fryklund earned the award.

"It is specials that Marni, Kali and Lindsay went out with this honor," said Sorenson. "Behrens has been outstanding not only in the pool but in the classroom."

To be eligible for this, an athlete must have a 3.5 GPA and make the NCAA Championship meet "B" time standards for swimmers or qualify for the NCAA Zone Qualifying Meet for divers.
