LSU Swimmers, Team Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Recognition

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, July 2. FORMER LSU swimmers Julius Gloeckner and Katherine Noland and current swimmer Jane Trepp were named 2009 Individual Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, while the women's team earned Scholar All-America Team honors for the second consecutive semester, the organization announced Wednesday.

"This is a special honor for those who not only achieve athletically but do it in the classroom as well," head coach Adam Schmitt said. "A student-athlete at LSU is expected to maintain a balance of success in both.

"I am proud of our women getting this team honor. I know the men were not too far behind. This truly represents the expectations of being a part of our swimming and diving program."

Gloeckner, the 2009 SEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's swimming and diving, finished his career this past season as one of the most decorated swimmers in recent program history, breaking four individual school records and playing a role in two relay records. The German also earned three more All-America honors at the NCAA Championships to complete his career as a six-time All-American.

Noland also capped her career as a six-time All-American. The Deerfield Beach, Fla., native captured three All-America accolades last year, including first-team honors in the 200-yard medley relay. She also shattered the 100-freestyle school record at NCAA's and was a part of four relay records.

Trepp enjoyed one of the finest seasons in recent program history, breaking three individual school records in three different strokes and helping four relays set new school-record times. The sophomore from Tallinn, Estonia, also became a three-time All-American and swam the breaststroke leg of the squad's first-team All-America 200 medley relay.

The Lady Tigers' Scholar All-America Team accolade is their second of the season as the squad was also honored for its accomplishments in the fall semester of 2008. The team recorded a 3.17 cumulative grade point average this past spring.

Sophomore Clint Hallum, one of the Tigers' most versatile athletes, was also recognized by the organization as an honorable mention Scholar All-American.
