Serbia Open: Andrea Basaraba Sets Serbian Record

BELGRADE, Serbia, June 12. THE Serbian Open Long Course Championships began today in Belgrade. Andrea Basaraba set a Serbian national mark in the women's 800 free.

Basaraba clocked an 8:59.10 in the women's 800 free to be the first sub-8:00 Serbian woman. Her previous record stood at 9:08.15 from this meet last summer. Monika Varga took second in 9:56.28 with Milica Marjanovic touching third in 10:00.11.

Ivan Kopas opened up the first finals session with a winning time of 27.58 in the men's 50 back. Petar Petrovic took second in 28.02 with Igor Beretic placing third in 28.67. Danijela Djikanovic took home the women's 50 back title in 30.60 with Andrea Basaraba (31.25) and Sara Savovic (32.71) rounding out the top three.

Zlatan Hamzic snared the men's 200 breast in 2:25.53, while Lachezar Shumkov (2:27.39) and Marko Bratic (2:29.94) touched second and third. Nadja Higl just missed her Serbian record with a 2:29.93 in the women's 200 breast. She owns the national mark with a 2:29.88 from last month. Stefanija Draganov took second in 2:43.11 with Jelana Dedejic finishing third in 2:49.31.

Radovan Siljevski touched first in the men's 100 free with a 51.94, while Boris Stojanovic (52.26) and Vladislav Paskas (53.16) placed second and third. Miroslava Najdanovski took the women's 100 free title in 56.64, while Andjelka Petrovic (58.12) and Monika Senji (59.27) finished second and third.

Stefan Andonovic won the men's 200 fly in 2:15.32 with Milos Milanovic (2:17.70) and Ivan Zgomba (2:18.94) completing the podium. Mila Jovanov followed with a 2:24.90 in the women's 200 fly, while Sonja Todorovic (2:30.70) and Aleksandra Crvenko (2:32.11) wound up second and third.

Lazar Bogdanovski crushed the competition with a 2:12.56 in the men's 200 IM, while Nikola Trajkovic (2:17.87) and Aleksandar Miletic (2:21.64) finished second and third. Katarina Simonovic finished first in the women's 200 IM in 2:30.62. Milica Grbic (2:47.82) and Jelena Aleksic (2:58.74) were the only other swimmers in the race.

Stefan Sorak won the men's 800 free in 8:33.92, while Igor Mijatovic finished second in 9:09.59. Nebojsa Trudic took third in 9:28.26.
