Swim Clubs Across Canada Invite You to Their Pools

OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada, June 12. SATURDAY, June 13th is National Swim Day and Swim Clubs across Canada are inviting Canadians to their pools for activities in support of Swimming Canada's challenge to make every child in the country water safe.

"Swimming is a part of Canadian living, and every child should be able to safely enjoy being in the water," said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada. "Whether you're swimming in a backyard pool or at the cottage, having the proper swimming skills are essential for your safety. We encourage Canadians to contact participating clubs to get the skills required to enjoy a safe summer around the water."

The National Swim Day initiative is part of Swimming Canada's "See yourself Swimming" program that targets young children to adults to be active and safe in water.

Olympian and World Record holder Annamay Pierse debuted her swimming path at a local Edmonton pool where her parents enrolled her in Red Cross swimming lessons. "I really loved being in the water and just having fun doing handstands and playing games with my friends," said Pierse. "But most of all, I enjoyed learning to swim and my parents encouraged me to move up to competitive swimming."

Learning to effectively move in water offers a low resistance physical activity perfect for muscle growth and being fit. Swimming is an excellent activity for children with a disability, and is a lifelong "Active for Life" activity.
