Texas’ Kathryn Kelly Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team

TOWSON, Maryland, June 12. UNIVERSITY of Texas senior diver Kathryn Kelly has earned her second consecutive selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team in a vote conducted by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Kelly (Longwood, Fla.) joins an elite group at UT as she becomes the sixth women's student-athlete in school history to earn two selections to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team. Kelly was selected to the 15-member first team in the women's university at-large division after being named to the second team a season ago.

The women's university at-large division includes NCAA Division I programs in the sports of swimming and diving, bowling, rowing, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. Kelly became eligible for Academic All-America consideration after earning a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team on May 22.

Kelly wrapped up her Texas career as a four-time All-American after placing sixth in the one-meter diving event at the 2009 NCAA Championships. She also captured the one-meter event at the 2009 Big 12 Championships. The Big 12 Conference selected Kelly as its Women's Diver of the Year in 2008 after she registered two All-America finishes at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

A three-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection, Kelly completed work on a bachelor's degree in public relations last month. She joins Alisa Schuknecht, Kelly Jenkins, Mary Yarrison (swimming and diving), Nikki Cockrell (softball) and Jamie Carey (basketball) as the only women in the history of UT athletics to earn two selections to the Academic All-America Team.
