Kathryn Meaklim, Wendy Trott, Darian Townsend and Roland Schoeman Among Medals in France

CANET, France, June 11. DURBANITE Kathryn Meaklim produced a performance that was too hot for the foreign onslaught to handle in the 200 metres individual medley, as SA swimmers claimed four medals in the final session of the Mare Nostrum gala in Canet, France today.

Meaklim's winning effort in 2 min 14 secs, allowed her to collect her second medal in as many days having claimed silver in the 400 metres individual medley 24 hours earlier.

University of Georgia-based Wendy Trott also added to her medal tally, as she finished second in the 400 metres freestyle final in 4:10, to add to the gold medal won in the 800 metres freestyle on the opening day of the three-day gala.

Darian Townsend contributed to the SA team with a silver medal in the 200 metres individual medley final (2:01), having won bronze in the 100 metres individual medley a day earlier.

Roland Schoeman made his way to the medal podium with a bronze medal-winning feat in the 50 metres butterfly, while his Tshwane-based team-mate William Diering ended fourth in the 200 metres breaststroke (2:13).

The Mare Nostrum competition was a crucial phase in the SA swim team's preparations ahead of their participation in the FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy from July 26-August 2.
