South Africans Look Ahead to FINA Water Polo Super League

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, May 28. SOUTH Africa's Water Polo stars will look to continue getting among the goals, when they make their debut in the 8-nation FINA Water Polo Super League Finals in Podgorica, Montenegro from June 16-21.

The South Africans will join hosts Montenegro, European group qualifiers in Serbia, Italy and Croatia, as well as the USA, and two representatives from the Asian qualifying group, in the race for the honours.

Following last weekend's African qualifying leg in Casablanca, Morocco, in which SA recorded wins over Morocco (22-3 and 32-6), Libya (42-0 and 60-0) and Algeria (25-6 and 34-2), the South Africans will look to prove that they belong among the top nations in world Water Polo ahead of the FINA World Championships which take place in Rome from July 18-30.

"The team spirit is very high in the SA camp with the 60-0 win over Libya being an African record and the second highest score ever in the history of Water Polo," said national team manager Dion Willis.

All of Wesley Bohata (3 goals) Chris Icely (6), Kevin O' Brien (3), Bevan Manson (8), William Naidoo (2), Ryan Bell (8), Rick Diesel (2), Pierre le Roux (9) Richard Downes (6), Duncan Woods (6) and Don Stewart (7), contributed towards a nightmare occasion for Libya.
