CIF Central Coast Championships

SANTA CLARA, California, May 20. AT the CIF Central Coast Championships, 15 section records were erased from the books. Highlighting the meet was Saratoga High School's Matt Murray, Ian Burns, Adam Hinshaw, and Ben Hinshaw. The quartet clocked a national high school record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:00.68.

Girls Results
Archbishop Mitty and Palo Alto went head-to-head for the girl's state title. Archbishop Mitty came out on top with 277 points, followed by Palo Alto (274) and Monta Vista (213).

Palo Alto opened the meet with a section record in the 200 medley relay. Paige Devine, Sarah Liang, Margaret Wenzlau, and Jasmine Tosky clocked a time of 1:44.31 for the win. Liang set a section record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.50.

Tosky had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. She set section records with times of 1:57.94 and 4:43.96 respectively.

Stephanie Phipps (Archbishop Mitty) won the diving competition with a score of 498.05. Lindsay Lester (Willow Glen) took second (480.90) and Alex Hall (St. Francis) placed third (429.25).

Sophomore Maddy Schaefer (St. Francis) had individual wins in the 50 (22.55) and 100 (49.34) freestyles.

Monta Vista's Emma Drysdale and Chelsea Fong had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (54.50) and 200 freestyle (1:48.99) respectively. They teamed up with Megan Fiscer-Colbrie and Audrey Kwong to set section records in the 200 (1:34.58) and 400 (3:23.53) freestyle relays.

Boys Results
Despite Saratoga's National Record in the 400 freestyle relay, Bellarmine College Prep secured the state title with 319.50 points. Saratoga took the runner-up spot (258) and Valley Christian placed third (220).

Brad Murray, who won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.55, teamed up M. Murray, Burns, and B. Hinshaw in the 200 medley relay. They set a section record with a time of 1:31.84.

Swimming World five-star recruits B. Hinshaw (Saratoga) and Nick Trowbridge (Mountain View) ended their high school careers with individual section records. B. Hinshaw won the 200 IM (1:46.96) and the 500 freestyle (4:21.54), while Trowbridge, who will be attending the University of California – Berkeley in the fall, won the 200 freestyle (1:37.11).

Junior Shayne Fleming (Valley Christian) broke the 20-second barrier in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.89. He also set a section record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 43.71.

Fremont's Brian Peters won the diving competition with a score of 453.40, followed by Austin Blease (St. Francis) and Grayson Huston (Carmel) with scores of 446.90 and 437.20 respectively.

M. Murray, a three-star recruit who will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall, won the 100 butterfly (48.45) and the 100 backstroke. He set a section record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.97.

Bellarmine College Prep won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.32. Julius Espiritu, Sam Shimomura, Will Roller, and Brandon Shilling contributed to the win.
