PERTH, Australia, May 18. NINE national records fell over the weekend at the West Australian Masters State Swim at Challenge Stadium, the venue for the 2008 FINA World Masters Championships, four of which were broken by Bold Park Power's Vic Paul, who is still celebrating his entry into the 65-69 age group.

Paul broke records by Bob Barry set in 1996 in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:27.89 and in the 200m IM in 2:51.82 by margins of 3.70 seconds and 6.76 seconds respectively. Paul also lowered the 100m butterfly record of Dick Campion set at the 2009 Worlds in Perth by 2.20 seconds in a time of 1:22.46 and broke his own 200m butterfly record set last month as an 800m split by 8.65 seconds in a time of 3:03.16.

The other multiple record breaker was the redoubtable Mandurah swimmer, 81-year-old Rod Baker, in the 80-84 age group. He took down Kevin Vickery's 2003 records for the 100m backstroke by 4.09 seconds in a time of 1:42.81 and shaved 0.03 seconds off the 100m breaststroke mark set by Arthur Evans in 1994 with a time of 2:03.08.

Caryn Kiellor of West Coast Club, in her new 50-54 age group, took almost 4 seconds off the women's 200m butterfly record set at the 2008 Worlds in a time of 2:57.89. Adrian Davini, 24, from the Swan Hills Club, sliced 0.90 seconds off Mark Lane's long-standing 100m breaststroke 20-24 years record from the 1987 National Championships in a time of 1:10.98. Dean Stockwell of Claremont club took 0.43 seconds off his own record set at the 2008 Worlds in the 40-44 years 50m breaststroke with a time of 30.97 seconds.
