Czech Grand Prix: Evelyn Verraszto Triples

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic, May 17. ON the second and final day of long course meter swimming at the Czech Grand Prix held in Ostrava, Evelyn Verraszto put together a strong session with a title trifecta.

Martin Slechta began the second night of action with a victorious 23.92 in the men's 50 free. Ivan Levaj (24.15) and Ondrej Broda (24.30) took second and third behind him. Verraszto topped the women's 50 free in 26.03, while Martha Matsa (26.49) and Eva Dobar (27.30) completed the top three.

Ivan Capan touched first in the men's 50 breast with a 29.45 to beat Alexandr Jusku (30.27) and Daniel Vacval (30.81). Meanwhile, Alison Long claimed the women's 50 breast title in 33.42. She touched out Ewa Scieszko, who finished second in 33.43. Reka Pecz finished third in 33.98.

Christos Moutsos earned the men's 200 free triumph with a 1:52.15, while Michal Rokicki (1:54.52) and Balazs Zambo (1:55.93) finished behind him. Verraszto won her second title of the day with a 1:59.83 in the women's 200 free. Agnes Bucz (2:04.80) and Orsolya Tompa (2:06.22) rounded out the podium.

In the 100 breast events, Capan won his second gold of the day with a 1:05.19 among the men. Sasa Impric (1:05.85) and Jusku (1:06.71) placed second and third. Greek's Angeliki Exarchou nearly cleared her second national record of the meet with a winning 1:08.94. That swim just missed Maria-Georgia Mihalaka's record of 1:08.66 set last weekend. Hana Palouskova (1:13.49) and Scieszko (1:13.78) touched second and third.

Martin Badura posted a 2:06.06 in the men's 200 back for the win, while Jakub Kocar (2:08.53) and Ondrej Palatka (2:08.83) wound up taking second and third. Verraszto captured her third gold medal of the day with a 2:14.06 in the women's 200 back. Antonia Bago (2:23.16) and Zsuzsanna Jaszo (2:27.51) placed second and third behind her.

Bence Borzsa touched out Batka Balint in the men's 100 fly, 56.68 to 56.90, with Zsombor Szana taking third in 57.25. Meanwhile, Emese Kovacz took the women's 100 fly title in 1:03.96. Gabriela Kostkova (1:04.14) and Hana Lefnerova (1:04.60) earned second and third.

In distance freestyle swimming, Zambo won the men's 1500 free in 15:48.48 with Lukas Grabl finishing second in 16:46.56. Jan Stabl took third in 16:57.75. Nicole Delaloye won the women's 800 free in 9:27.02 with Pavlina Dockalova (9:50.11) and Hana Kremenova (10:12.83) completing the top three.
