NCAA Div. I Women: Texas Dunks Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Jan. 13. TEXAS senior Colleen Lanné (Tucson, Ariz./Sal Pointe Catholic HS), junior Bethany Lindberg (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge HS)
and sophomore Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif./Dublin HS) each won two individual events as the No. 8-ranked Texas women's swimming and diving team defeated Florida State, 182-115, on Friday afternoon at
the Bobby E. Lee Center. The Longhorns improve to 3-0, while Florida State falls to 7-3 on the season.

Lanné touched first in both the 50 (23.00) and 100 freestyles (49.62), while Lindberg swept the back-stroke events, winning the 100 (56.48) and 200 (2:00.85). Jamison also captured the 200 IM (2:03.89)
and 200 freestyle events (1:50.10).

"We really turned it up a notch today," said co-head coach Jill Sterkel. "Florida State had the potential to take the meet if we had not performed well in each event. Everyone stayed focused and showed great success today. Now we have the momentum and the confidence to go up against a very strong Florida team on Saturday."

Also capturing first-place honors in individual events for the Longhorns were sophomore Emily Ballenger (Anderson, S.C./T.L. Hanna HS), who finished first in the 100 freestyle (10:05.50) and junior Helen Denman (Dalkeith, Australia/University of Western Australia),
who won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.95).

Additionally, the team of Lanné, sophomore Erin Phenix (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), junior Kelley Robins (Houston Texas/Awty International), and senior Shona Kitson (Windsor, Ontario/Vincent Massey HS) captured the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:33.79.

The Longhorns remain on the road and will next compete against No. 10 Florida on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.
