Canada’s Amber Thomas Wins Gold at British International Disability Swimming Championships

SHEFFIELD, England, May 16. AMBER Thomas of Drayton Valley, Alta., won the gold medal in the women's 200-metre individual medley on Friday to highlight the Canadian Para-swimming team's performances at the British International Disability Swimming Championships.

Thomas tied for first place in the race with Amberley Hoar of Britain each earning 658 points. The point system is determined on the time in relation to their disability category. Thomas clocked three minutes and 24.50 seconds.

It was a big day for Thomas who was also in two other finals. She placed sixth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 200 backstroke.

Laura Jensen of Fort St. John, B.C., was in two finals and finished fifth in the women's 50 butterfly and 10th in the 400 freestyle. Stephanie McDougall of Maple Ridge, B.C., was 10th in the 100 breaststroke.

In B finals, Hessel Altenburg of Sackville, N.B., was first for 11th overall in the men's 100 breaststroke, Brittany Gray of Barrie, Ont., and Brianna Nelson of North Vancouver were 1-2 and Jensen sixth in the 100 breaststroke while Nelson and Gray were second and third respectively in the women's 400 freestyle.
