Australian Masters Swimming Features Several FINA Masters World Records

MELBOURNE, Australia, May 4. DANIEL Kowalski put on a show at the 2009 Australian Masters Long Course Championships. Swimming in the 30-34 age division, Kowalski cleared three FINA Masters World Records.

Kowalski posted a time of 8:18.76 in the men's 800 freestyle on the first day of competition to crush the previous record of 8:26.26 set by Brazil's Carlos Pavao in 2007.

After a day of rest, Kowalski returned for the men's 400 free during the third day of swimming. Kowalski became the first man in the 30-34 division to clear 4:00 with a winning time of 3:58.42. That swim beat Pavao's record of 4:05.19 also set in 2007.

Kowalski completed the meet on the fourth day with a men's 200 free time of 1:53.15 to beat Rowdy Gaines' record of 1:54.04, set in 1990.

In other Australian Masters Swimming news, Michael Maloney's time of 3:04.79 set in the men's 70-74 200 breaststroke during the 2009 Victorian Long Course Championships back in March has been ratified by FINA as a Masters World Record.
