Swimming Canada Posts High Performance Swimming Center Position, Reminder to Non-Resident Canadians About World Championships Trials

OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada, May 1. A pair of press releases just came through from Swimming Canada. One is a job posting, the other is an explanation of the rules to qualify for the World Championships Team as a non-resident.

University of Toronto – High Performance Swimming Center Head Coach Posting
Swimming / Natation Canada, the national governing body for competitive swimming in Canada, is in search of a dynamic Head Coach to fill a new position at the recently developed High Performance Swimming Centre, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON.
This will be a contract position: September 1, 2009 to December 31st, 2012.

DESCRIPTION:
The key responsibilities will include development and coaching of all facets of the High Performance Swimming Centre. Coaching responsibilities will include both residential program and outreach services for Ontario based national team athletes. The specific target of this position is to develop international medals for Canadian swimming with a priority on Olympic medals. Primary roles and responsibilities are:
• Development of a Centre residential program.
• Day-to-day coaching responsibilities for residential/Centre based athletes.
• Supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Centre including facility coordination, provincial coach collaboration and other duties as identified.
• Working directly with the sport science support staff (Integrated Support Team or I.S.T.) to service both residential and outreach athletes.
• Provide leadership for National training camp initiatives.
• In concert with the CEO / National Coach, provide technical development, leadership, direction and management for National Team activities.
• Work in conjunction with the CEO / National Coach to facilitate the progression of targeted coach/athlete tandems towards short-term and intermediate goals.
• Work in conjunction with the University of Toronto Coach staff to facilitate the progression of targeted student athletes towards short-term and intermediate goals.
Assist the SNC national staff in the:
• Development and operation of an ‘outreach' program impacting carded athletes and their coaches external to the Centre residential program.
• Development of a strategy to host and work with visiting carded athletes and their coaches.
• Assist in the development of strategies for national and international initiatives, such as camps and clinics.
• Liaise and consult, when available, with the Swim Ontario Provincial Technical staff on Regional and Provincial technical delivery.
• Assist the association's development of the Long Term Athlete Development strategy, club development strategies and elite development requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated and proven record of performances at the World Championships and Olympic level. Strong communication and team-building skills are essential and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment is critical. A proven self starter and an ability to effect communications is a requirement. An aptitude to educate and mentor will be considered an asset, as will sport administration skills. The ability to communicate effectively in English and French is a preferred asset.

Memo to non-resident Canadians wishing to compete for selection to the 2009 World Aquatic Championships Team

To be eligible for selection, all non-resident Canadians must be aware of the following:

1. You must be a member of a Swimming Canada or a Swimming Canada registered club prior to June 8, 2009
2. You must have a current Canadian passport as of July 8, 2009.
3. You must sign off on the 2009 World Aquatic Championships Swimming Team Rules, Regulations and Mandatory Requirements by July 7, 2009.
