USC Signs Pair of Top-Flight Swimmers

LOS ANGELES, California, April 29 FRENCH national champion and 2008 Olympian Clement Lefert and Yumi So (Crescenta Valley, Calif.), a two-time 2008 U.S. Short Course National Championships finalist, have signed with USC, third-year head men's and women's swimming coach Dave Salo announced on Wednesday (April 29).

"Clement and Yumi are outstanding competitors and join the strongest incoming class we have recruited since I have been back at USC," Salo said. "We expect to return to the Top 5 over the next several years and expect to begin challenging for the NCAA and Pac 10 Championships with the quality student-athletes like Clement and Yumi."

Lefert, from Nice, France, competed for the French at the 2008 Olympics in the 4x200m free relay. He won his first French national title in the 200m fly (1:56.20) on April 23 and posted the second-fastest French time ever (1:55.05) in the race in the semifinals. He will represent France at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. He was also a finalist in the 2008 European Short Course Championships in the 200m free.

So, who prepped at Crescenta Valley High, placed third in the 200m fly (1:56.63) and fifth in the 100m fly (53.05) at the 2008 USA Swimming Short Course National Championships in Atlanta. She was named the National 18 & Under champion in the 200m fly and also broke the 17-18 Girls 100m and 200m Fly SCS records. The 200m fly mark was previously held by former Trojan Olympian Kaitlin Sandeno (2001) while the 100m fly mark was held by Olympian Jenna Johnson (1985). So also competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100m and 200m fly.
