USA Swimming Sectionals, Indianapolis: Two Meet Records Fall

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 27. ON the second night of long course meter swimming at the IU Natatorium at IUPUI, two meet records fell at the USA Swimming Sectionals.

Westerville's Kate McNeilis topped the women's 200 free in a meet-record time of 2:03.44. The effort wiped out the 2:03.85 set by Jacy Dyer last year. IU's Courey Schaefer (2:04.70) and Oakland Live Y'er Rebecca Brooks (2:05.78) took second and third. IU's Jimmy Barbiere (1:52.06) and Titus Knight (1:52.25) finished 1-2 in the men's 200 free, while Cincy Marlin Will Lawley took third in 1:53.64.

SWAC's McKenzie Bagan wound up in front of the women's 100 fly with a time of 1:01.57, while West Michigan's Emily Bos (1:02.06) and Carmel's Trish Regan (1:03.05) rounded out the top three. New Albany's Joe Doyle clocked a 54.80 to win the men's 100 fly, while IU's Mathew O'Brien claimed second in 54.93. CCST's Kyle Ruth touched third in 55.50.

In longer distance swimming, Oakland Live Y'ers swept the women's 400 IM with a 1-2-3 finish. Megan Fox (4:55.05), Eva Lehtonen (4:59.07) and Melissa Scott (5:00.75) gave OLY the top three spots. IU did the same on the men's side as Aaron Opell broke the meet record with a 4:26.92. Honza Vitazka set the previous record in 2002 with a 4:29.33. Kevin Happ (4:28.16) and Brenden Butler (4:35.19) placed second and third.

In 800 free relay action, OLY's Brooks, Maeve McHugh, Fox and Lehtonen won in 8:34.12 for the women while West Michigan's Benjiman Mosterd, Sam Hoekstra, Kyle Taylor and Eric Solis won the men's title in 7:47.67.
