USA Swimming Sectionals, Cambridge: Nimrod Hayet Shines With Three Golds

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, March 14. PEDDIE's Nimrod Hayet brought his A game during the third night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Cambridge, Mass. Hayet finished the night with two meet records and three gold medals.

Peddie's Rachel Flinn, JiYoung Lee, Xiao Zhao and Carolyn Fittin began the night with a winning time of 1:44.30 in the women's 200-yard medley relay. The Jersey Gator foursome of Kevin Wilson, Steve Swenson, Henry Scott and Michael MacDonald followed with a meet-record time of 1:32.32 in the men's 200-yard medley relay. The swim bettered the previous record of 1:32.87 set by the Gators in 2007.

Bluefish's Laura Sogar continued her strong meet with a winning readout of 1:59.11 in the women's 200-yard fly, while Hayet crushed the meet record in the men's 200-yard fly with a 1:46.91. The effort blasted the 1:49.00 set by Brendan Neligan of Ithaca back in 2001.

Fittin returned in the women's 50-yard free to claim the splash-and-dash crown in 23.09, while Mike Kaiserian raced to a 20.79 for the win after setting the meet record with a 20.70 during prelims. Christopher Pai owned the old record of 20.72 set in 2003.

With Sogar sitting out the event, AGUA's Annie Zhu pocketed the women's 200-yard breast title in 2:14.56. Hayet, meanwhile, snatched another meet record with a 2:00.69 for the men's 200-yard breast win. The swim broke the preliminary record of 2:01.71 set by Thomas Casey, which in turn beat the 2001 record of 2:01.91 set by Seok Jun Lee. Casey finished second at night in 2:00.72.

Cheshire's Lauren Solernou snared the women's 100-yard back title in 54.92, while Green Mountain's Patrick Murphy broke the men's 100-yard back meet record with a 48.89. The effort beat the former record of 49.63 set by Michael Ross in 2006.

AGUA's Sara Giberson raced to the women's 500-yard free win in 4:46.05, while Badger's Ryan Feeley dropped a 4:20.02 in the men's 500-yard free to crush Scott Goldblatt's meet record of 4:23.94 set in 2003.

Peddie won another women's relay title as Fittin, Lee, Kathryn Raplee and Laura Loughran clocked a 3:23.86 to win the 400-yard free relay crown. The performance smashed the meet record of 3:26.98 set by Germantown in 2006.

Peddie then concluded the night with a near meet-record time of 3:30.96 being clocked by Connor Signorin, Hayet, Wesley Mullins and Pete Fittin. The readout just missed the 3:03.66 set by Long Island in 2002.
