USA Swimming Sectionals, College Station: Meet Records Take Tumble on Second Night

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 6. THE second night of short course yard swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Station, Texas featured several meet records taking a tumble.

Dallas Mustang Allison Arnold earned the meet record in the women's 500-yard free with a time of 4:45.87. The swim beat the previous standard of 4:46.52 set by Colleen Gordon in 2006. Teammate Caleb Veazey also picked off a meet record with a 4:25.84 in the men's 500-yard free. The effort bettered the 4:25.91 set by Anthony Fleming in 2005.

Tucson Ford's Sarah Denninghoff claimed a meet record in the women's 200-yard back with a time of 1:55.15 during prelims to beat the 1:56.70 set by Lauren Gettel in 2002 then returned with a winning 1:55.17 during finals. Stud recruit Matt Thompson of Dallas Mustangs ripped off a 1:42.23 in the men's 200-yard back to crush the meet record of 1:46.56 set by Matt Neal in 2005.

Lily Moldenhauer of Alamo Area captured the women's 100-yard free with a time of 49.01 to beat Dana Vollmer's meet record of 49.68 set in 2005, while Tyler Svendsen edged the men's 100-yard free meet record with a time of 44.46. The effort wiped out the 44.56 set by Neil Caskey in 2008.

Texas A&M's Jordan King won the women's 200-yard fly crown with a time of 2:00.07, while Dallas Mustang Greg Hoffman snatched the men's 200-yard fly in 1:49.17.

The 400-yard free relays concluded the night. Alamo Area's Alexa Morris, Kim Pavlin, Morgan Duin and Moldenhauer set the meet record with a 3:25.60. Cy-Fair set the previous record with a 3:25.77 in 2006. Meanwhile, Tucson Ford's Geordon Price, Herbie Behm, Nick Popov and Anthony Chiaro raced to a 2:58.33. The effort cleared the meet record of 3:02.85 set by Texas A&M in 2006.
