Pacific 10 Championships: Nathan Adrian Just Misses American Record in 50 Free

LONG BEACH, California, March 5. DURING preliminary swimming of the second day of action at the Pacific 10 Championships held in Long Beach, Calif., California's Nathan Adrian just missed notching the American record in the 50-yard free.

Adrian blasted a time of 18.88 during afternoon heats, which missed the American record by the slimmest of margins, .01. Ben Wildman-Tobriner owns the record with an 18.87 relay leadoff for Stanford from the 2007 NCAA Championships held in Minneapolis, Minn.

Auburn's Cesar Cielo holds the NCAA and U.S. Open record with an 18.47 set in Federal Way, Wash., at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
