Austrian Long Course Nationals: Several More Austrian Standards Tumble

WIEN, Austria, March 1. SEVERAL more Austrian records fell by the wayside during the last day of swimming at the Austrian Long Course National Championships.

Mirna Jukic kept rolling at the meet with a national record in the women's 50 breast. She crushed the competition in the sprint event with a time of 31.42. That effort shaved some time off her previous best of 31.59 set last March. Jukic then won the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:16.00.

Birgit Koschischek also provided a national record in the women's 100 free with a swift time of 55.58. That performance cut a bit off her 55.62 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the men's 100 free, Dominik Koll almost became the first Austrian under 50 second with a 50.02. The swim smashed his previous record of 50.38 set at the 2007 World Championships.

Another Austrian record fell in the men's 800 free when Florian Janistyn beat former record holder David Brandl, 7:55.97 to 7:56.88. Both swims cleared Brandl's previous record of 7:58.33 set in 2007.

Fabienne Nadarajah grabbed the women's 50 back with a time of 29.37, just off her national record of 29.06. Markus Rogan rolled in the men's 50 back with a winning time of 25.72. Up until last weekend, that would have been a national record. Rogan, however, recently clocked a 24.53 for the new standard.

Hunor Mate walked away with the men's 50 breast title when he hit the wall in 28.40. Additionally, Dinko Jukic took home the men's 200 IM crown in 2:00.31. Meanwhile, Nina Dittrich snared the women's 1500 free in 16:31.72.
