Canadian Interuniversity Championships: Canadian Records Fall By Wayside; Annamay Pierse Scares World Record

VANCOUVER, Canada, February 20. ANNAMAY Pierse highlighted the second evening of swift short course meter competition at the Canadian Interuniversity Championships.

Pierse ripped off a sterling time of 2:18.59 to give Leisel Jones' world record of 2:17.75 in the women's 200 breast a run. Pierse's time did crush her national record of 2:21.69.

Katy Murdoch opened the evening with a national record of 58.67 in the women's 100 back as she downed Hanna Kubas (59.11) en route to the title. Both swims cleared the 59.33 Canadian record set by Marilyn Chang in 2000.

In relay action, Murdoch, Breanna Hendriks, Kevyn Peterson and Erica Morningstar posted a national record time of 7:55.91 in the women's 800 freestyle relay. The effort eclipsed the 7:58.14 set in 2008.
