Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships: Day Two

LONG BEACH, California, February 20. AFTER another strong day at the PCSC Championships, both the UCSD men's and women's swimming and diving teams sit atop the Championship leader board. The men's team has 594.5 points, over 200 points ahead of second place Seattle University, with Kneif Lohse, Dan Perdew, and the 200 free relay team each winning their events. The women's squad has scored 528 total points after two days, receiving second place finishes on Thursday from Shannon Simonds, Alexandra Henley, Erinn Deters, and the 200 free relay team.

Lohse and Kyle Begovich finished 1-2 in the 500 free, recording times of 4:30.56 and 4:37.93, respectively. Perdew won the 50 free with a time of 20.47, while Todd Langland came in fifth at 20.78. Brandon Maryatt, Elden Carpenter, and Andy Islip placed 5-6-7 in the 200 IM, while Sam Stromberg, Todd and Blake Langland, and Perdew won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:22.10.

Simonds' time of 5:00.39 was good for second in the 500 free event. Henley would replicate that finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.91. Kendall Bohn finished fourth in that same event with her finals time of 2:06.97, while posting the best time among all competitors during the preliminaries of the event. Deters and Aubrey Panis finished second and third in the 50 free, with Deters posting a time of 23.58 and Panis finishing in 24.02. Danielle Niculescu also performed well for the diving team, finishing fourth on the one-meter boards with a score of 366.15. The 200 free relay team of Jessica Ferguson, Deters, Simonds, and Panis finished as runner-up with a time of 1:34.95.

Head coach Scott McGihon's squad will look to extend their advantage, as the PCSC Championships continue on Friday and conclude Saturday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
