Lyon International: Riccardo De Lucia, Marleen Veldhuis Set Meet Records; Rebecca Adlington Competes

LYON, France, February 15. THE final day of long course meter swimming occurred at the Lyon International meet held in France.

Riccardo De Lucia began the last session of competition with a meet record in the men's 400 free. He hit the wall in 3:53.24 to touch out Anthony Pannier, who took second in 3:53.31. Raoul Shaw rounded out the top three in 4:00.29.

Marleen Veldhuis followed with another meet record, this time charting a 57.85 to win the women's 100 fly going away. Inge Dekker placed second in 59.06, while Diane Bui Duyet finished third in 1:00.99.

Andrew Mayor clocked a 2:01.05 to gain the men's 200 fly title. Tullio Calzolari took second in 2:01.34, while Romain Sassot touched third in 2:03.46. Sharon Van Rouwendaal grabbed the women's 200 back title in 2:16.92. Greta Ceccarini (2:17.57) and Sarah Rolko (2:19.84) wound up second and third.

Romania's Razvan Florea came through with a meet record in the men's 100 back when he posted a 54.87. Florea's time came up just short of his national record of 54.81 set in Beijing last summer. Fulvio Paolo Maciejak took second in 56.74, while Christoph Borek finished third in 59.28.

Chiarra Boggiatto surfaced from the women's 100 breast with the win in 1:10.18. Sara El Bekri took second in 1:11.33 as she held off Andrea Baudry, who placed third in 1:11.46. Loris Facci then captured the men's 200 breast in 2:15.01. Federico Franciolini (2:16.07) and Christophe Richard (2:16.38) placed second and third.

Olympic distance star Rebecca Adlington put in some time at the meet after pulling out of some of the longer distance events. She wound up snatching the women's 200 free title in 1:59.00, while Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Silvia Florio battled for second, 2:01.34 to 2:01.70.

Vitorrio Dinia claimed the men's 100 free title with a time of 50.94, while Florent Manaudou picked up second-place honors in 51.64. Riccardo Bartoli completed the podium in 51.97. Joanne Andraca walked away with the women's 400 IM crown in 4:48.57, while Van Rouwendaal placed second in 4:55.24. Eva Crestacci grabbed third in 4:56.75.

Alessio De Stefani collected the men's 200 IM title in 2:07.10, while Franciolini touched second in 2:08.06 and Borek claimed third in 2:09.57.

The always interesting 10 x 100 freestyle relays closed the meet.
