USA Swimming Grand Prix, Missouri: Mary DeScenza Doubles Up

COLUMBIA, Missouri, February 13. THE first night of long course meter competition at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Columbia, Mo., featured another strong meet from Mary DeScenza. Already leading the overall Grand Prix series leaderboard, DeScenza piled on some more points with a pair of victories.

Women's 200 free
Mary DeScenza added to her overall Grand Prix series standing with a touch out victory over Katie Hoff in the event. By the slimmest of margins, DeScenza emerged with a 1:58.25 to 1:58.26 triumph. Chloe Sutton, typically a distance star, claimed third in 2:00.79.

Men's 200 free
In another close contest, Ous Mellouli touched out Brent Hayden, 1:47.28 to 1:47.52, for the win. Meanwhile, Dominik Meichtry completed the international top three with a third-place 1:50.02.

Women's 100 breast
Keri Hehn defended her top seed from the morning with a commanding victory in 1:08.54. Raminta Dvariskyte hit the wall second in 1:11.60, while Emma Reaney snared third in 1:12.70.

Men's 100 breast
Now cancer free, Eric Shanteau walked away with the title in 1:01.93. Matt Lowe touched out Martin Cernansky, 1:02.84 to 1:02.98, for second. Notably, Mark Gangloff won the consolation final with a 1:02.73.

Women's 100 fly
Mary DeScenza doubled up on the evening with a swift time of 58.11 in the 100 fly. She defeated Christine Magnuson, who took second in 58.68. Felicia Lee sprinted to third in 1:00.06. Additionally, Katie Hoff won the consolation heat in 1:01.28.

Men's 100 fly
Masayuki Kishida claimed a victory over Ryan Lochte, 53.11 to 53.84, for the title. Malajevic Uribe rounded out the top three in 54.39.

Women's 400 IM
In the distance medley, Tanya Hunks dominated with a winning effort of 4:48.12. Shannon Vreeland placed second in 4:54.96 with Sarah Peterson taking third in 4:56.60.

Men's 400 IM
Ryan Lochte turned his silver in the 100 fly into gold in the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:19.49. Alex Vanderkaay placed second in 4:21.19, while Brennan Morris took third in 4:27.59.
