Povoa de Varzim International: Amit Ivry Part of Two Meet Records

PORTO, Portugal, February 8. ISRAEL's Amit Ivry was a part of two meet records to close out the Povoa de Varzim International meet held in Porto, Portugal over long course meters.

Pedro Miguel Pinotes topped the men's 400 IM in 4:35.93 to open the day. Meanwhile, Giulia Bolgiani set a meet record with a time of 8:56.08 in the women's 800 free.

Todd Patrick kept up his winning ways with his fourth victory of the meet when he touched out Yuri Samouilich, 51.48 to 51.64, in the men's 100 free, while Susanna Negri followed with a touch-out triumph over Sara Beatriz Loureiro and Bolgiani, 2:05.24 to 2:05.38, 2:05.43, in the women's 200 free.

Kevin Swander conquered the men's 50 breast with a winning effort of 28.30, while backstroker teammate Ben Hesen clocked a surprising second-place 29.36. Israel's Yuliya Banach gained another gold medal with a time of 1:10.80 in the women's 100 breast.

In another backstroke battle between Mirco Di Tora and Hesen, Di Tora came out ahead in the men's 100 back with a meet-record time of 54.88. Hesen wound up second in 55.33. Di Tora joined Ryosuke Irie (54.10), Hayden Stoeckel (54.37) and Takashi Nakano (54.67) as the other 54-second performers so far this young year.

Stefania Cartapani checked in with a meet-record time of 29.47 in the women's 50 back, while Nuno Quintanilha downed Patrick, 2:01.89 to 2:02.77, in the men's 200 fly.

Ivry continued a strong meet with a meet-record time of 59.83 in the women's 100 fly. She is one of just six swimmers to clear 1:00 so far this year as Felicity Galvez (58.58), Marieke Guehrer (59.07), Ellen Gandy (59.16), Jessicah Schipper (59.74) and Gabriella Fagundez (59.97) each broke 1:00.

Meanwhile, Fabio Manuel Pereira took home the men's 400 free crown with a time of 3:57.03. Negri grabbed her second victory of the session with a time of 2:20.81 in the women's 200 IM after snatching the 200 free earlier.

Henrique Pereira Neiva came through with a winning time of 2:22.38 in the men's 200 breast, while Loureiro touched out Ivry, 26.98 to 27.08, in the women's 50 free.

Rudy Goldin and Patrick put together a close finish in the men's 50 fly with Golding winning, 24.56 to 24.89, while Marta Pereira Abreu touched out Silvia Marinoni, 2:21.58 to 2:21.64, in the women's 200 back.

The team of Adriano Miguel Niz, Pereira, Neiva and Mario Jorge Rodrigues won the men's 400 medley relay in 3:54.74, while Israel's squad of Nicol Samsonyk (59.37), Doron Osher Levy (59.99), Kristina Tchemychev (59.25) and Ivry (57.50) set the women's 400 free relay meet record with a 3:56.11.
