Connecticut vs. Rhode Island, Drexel

KINGSTON, Rhode Island, January 25. THE University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming and diving teams both posted a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon against Rhode Island and Drexel. The men's team defeated Rhode Island by a score of 241-33 and topped Drexel by a 150-124 score. The women's team topped Drexel by a 174-95 count and beat Rhode Island 181-88. The men are 5-0 on the season while the women are 5-1.

For the women's team, freshman Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) led the way with first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.97, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.98 and the 200-yard IM.

Junior Molly McGroarty (Lynnwood, N.J.) also had a successful day with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.66) and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.36.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Que.) won the 100-yard backstroke (52.40) and the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.16. Senior Adrian Astiz (Rockville, Md.) won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.82 and the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.71) while senior Jules Alexandre (Wallingford, Conn.) won the 50-yard freestyle (21.57) and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.82 seconds.

The UConn 200-yard medley relay team of Davidson, Astiz, Alexandre and senior captain JH Dasinger (Madison, Miss.) won the event in a time of 1:34.70 to set a Tottell Pool record on the URI campus.

Both team return to action next weekend as they travel to Georgetown next Friday at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday at George Washington at 12:00 p.m.
