Low Tide, High Tide: County Teams Across Nation Seeing Highs and Lows

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 21. THE counties of Broward County in Florida and Frederick County in Maryland are currently experiencing two ends of the bureaucratic spectrum.

As reported last month, the Frederick County Public Schools are entertaining a plan to cut swimming from its district that includes nine high school to save on costs. The cuts would likely eliminate the chance for 419 student-athletes to represent their high school while swimming.

The decision regarding these cuts will likely be made during a school board meeting on Feb. 11. The move has also emboldened other counties such at Loudoun in Virginia to consider cutting high school swimming due to budget cuts.

Meanwhile, a new Nova Pool is being built in Broward County. The school board in that county has gone above and beyond just working to build the facility. It is also planning a reunion and celebration of Nova Swimming surrounding the construction of the facility.
