Arizona Hosts Multiple Dual Meets

TUCSON, Arizona, January 3. THE University of Arizona swimming and diving program served as host to five universities today at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Ariz. When the final results were tallied, Arizona emerged as the victor for both men's and women's teams.

Air Force, Northern Arizona, Washington, Oregon State and Colorado School of the Mines represented the visitors in what became a very crowded pool deck.

The Arizona women began the meet by winning the 200 medley relay with a team of Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Ana Agy and Taylor Baughman posting a time of 1:41.75.

Ana Agy continued her hot streak as she won both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly with times of 55.34 and 55.45 respectively.

Alyssa Anderson was her usual dominant self as she won the 200y butterfly and the 500y freestyle, turning in times of 1:58.91 and 4:52.82 respectively.

Julie Stupp also was a two-event winner as she won the 200y individual medley and 200y breaststroke with times of 2:04.78 and 2:17.73.

The men's team welcomed back Nicolas Nilo and Joel Greenshields, who were competing in their first meet of the season after sitting out the fall semester. Nilo won two events, the 100y and 200y free with times of 45.19 and 1:39.21 respectively, while Greenshields placed third in the 200y free and fourth in the 100y free.

In the men's 100y breaststroke, Marcus Titus paced the field with a time of 56.06.

Tucson native Bryan O'Connor captured yet another win in the 200y backstroke, this time posting a time of 1:49.13 to lead the pack.

In the closing relay, the men's team of Nicolas Nilo, Jordan Smith, Adam Small and Marcus Titus won the 200y free relay with a time of 1:21.91.

Over at the Kasser Family Diving Pool, Andres Guerra won the men's one meter dive with a score of 298.35.

In the men's three meter dive, Craig Sheedy topped all scores with 333.70 points.

Arizona took 23 of the possible 32 events in all. The women improved their record to 5-1 in dual meets and the men are now 4-1 in dual events.
