Louisiana Division II High School State Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, December 1. WITH a combined score of 813 points, Vandebilt Catholic walked away with the state title at the Louisiana Division II State Championships. Alexandria Senior took second with 587 points, followed by St. Michael with 411.

Girls Individual Results
Vandebilt Catholic's Anee Briglio, Rhyan Thomassie, Martha Basile and Amber Pierce opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:58.05).

Pierce swam a 25.33 in her 50 freestyle and a 56.09 in her 100 freestyle, touching out her opponents for two first-place finishes.

Briglio and Thomassie had individual wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke respectively. Briglio finished with a time of 1:05.38 while Thomassie clocked a 1:09.95.

Arlie Rykosky (East Jefferson) had dual individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:59.59) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.65).

Sarah Fister, Lindsey Griffin, Brittany Daigle and Abby Knight of Vandebilt Catholic teamed up in the 200 freestyle relay. The group finished first with a time of 1:50.28.

Brittany Daigle and Megan Oliver (Vandebilt) joined Briglio and Pierce for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.91).

Boys Individual Results
Logan Distefano, Dake Texada, Allen Arnold and Oscar Oliver of Alexandria Senior won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.29.

Oliver had dual individual wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles. He crushed the competition with times of 21.55 and 47.43 respectively.

Distenfano took first place in the 100 butterfly (54.16) and the 100 backstroke (55.39).

Senior David Rayner (Robert E Lee) dominated the meet's distance races. He won the 200 freestyle by a margin of 14.70 seconds (1:41.40) and the 500 freestyle by 51.19 seconds (4:37. 69).

St. Michael closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Buzz Hillborn, Tyler Pfister, David Duffy and Nick Skias finished with a time of 3:35.65.
