STOCKHOLM, Sweden, November 11. THE FINA World Cup circuit is heading down the stretch with two more meets over the next week. The first day of action at the Stockholm stop came to an end today.

Women's 800 freestyle slower seeds
Sweden's Martina Granstrom posted the fastest time with an 8:46.32, while Denmark's Trine Soby (9:06.20), Sweden's Joanna Olsson (9:16.04) and Sofia Larfars (9:21.15) also competed.

Men's 100 freestyle
South Africa's Darian Townsend claimed the top seed with a time of 46.92, while Sweden's Stefan Nystrand took second in 47.02. Russia's Andrey Grechin finished third in 47.40, while France's Fred Bousquet placed fourth in 47.65.

South Africa's Lyndon Ferns (47.71), Nick Brunelli of the U.S. (47.79), France's Alain Bernard (47.83) and Russia's Evgeny Lagunov (47.97) also secured spots in the championship final.

Women's 200 freestyle
Sweden's Petra Granlund led the way with a time of 1:57.30, while Japan's Haruka Ueda (1:58.10) and Brazil's Tatiana Lemos-Barbosa (1:58.31) touched second and third.

Kara Lynn Joyce of the U.S. (1:58.69), Sweden's Josefin Lillhage (1:59.00), Great Britain's Lucy Worrall (1:59.78) and Sasha Matthews (1:59.85) and France's Sophie Huber (2:00.63) rounded out the top eight.

Men's 50 breaststroke
South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh may test his newly-minted world record of 26.08 from Moscow after notching a prelim time of 26.72.

Kazakhstan's Vlad Polyakov took second in 27.27, while Germany's Marco Koch (27.33) and Australia's Christian Sprenger (27.35) placed third and fourth.

Ukraine's Igor Borysik (27.46), Japan's Ryo Tateishi (27.95), Sweden's Martin Gustafsson (28.02) and Denmark's Kristian Outinen (28.35) made up the rest of the finale.

Women's 100 breaststroke
Tara Kirk of the U.S. posted a time of 1:06.59 for the lead, while Sweden's Joline Hostman (1:07.02) and Australia's Sarah Katsoulis (1:08.23) placed second and third.

Sweden's Elin Lindstrom (1:08.44), Australia's Sally Foster (1:08.57), Russia's Alena Akseeva (1:08.76), Sweden's Hanna Westrin (1:08.89) and South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon (1:08.92) completed the championship eight.

Women's 100 butterfly
Denmark's Jeanette Ottesen paced prelims with a time of 58.85, while Sweden's Petra Granlund (58.97), Finland's Hanna-Maria Seppala (59.24) and Singapore's Li Tao (59.32) made up the top four.

Australia's Amy Smith (59.46), Norway's Ingvild Snildal (59.55) and Kim Vandenberg of the U.S. (59.59) claimed the rest of the transfer spots, while Lucy Worrall of Great Britain and Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and Cecilia Rasmuson tied for the final slot with matching 59.64s.

Rasmuson won the swimoff with a 59.70, while Sjostrom took second in 59.95 and Worrall placed third in 1:00.28.

Men's 100 backstroke
Japan's Ryosuke Irie and Australia's Robert Hurley led prelims with times of 52.72 and 52.73, while Randall Bal of the U.S. (52.89) and Australia's Ashley Delaney (53.18) took the rest of the center lanes.

Peter Marshall of the U.S. (53.34), Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer (53.40), Great Britain's Ryan Bennett (53.94) and Germany's Felix Wolf (54.04) made up the other eight finishers.

Women's 50 backstroke
Brazil's Fabiola Molina took the top seed in 27.74, while Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic (27.97), Australia's Sophie Edington (28.07) and Russia's Anastasia Zueva (28.09) placed in the top four.

Sweden's Magdalena Kuras (28.24), Denmark's Elspa Morkore (28.39), Singapore's Jia Yi Shana Lim (28.42) and Denmark's Pernille Larsen (28.51) also made finals.

Men's 200 butterfly
France's Christophe Lebon (1:56.22), Australia's Chris Wright (1:56.96), Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov (1:58.76) and Sweden's Simon Sjodin (1:58.96) were all under 2:00 to place first through fourth.

Hong Kong's Kai Wai Wong (2:00.93), Sweden's Linus Junefelt (2:01.63), Denmark's Lasse Offersen (2:03.22) and Viktor Bromer (2:03.99) grabbed the rest of the finale spots.

Women's 200 IM
Sweden's Malin Svahnstrom collected top billing in the event with a time of 2:13.01, while Brazil's Joanna Maranhao-Melo (2:13.33), Great Britain's Emma Smithurst (2:14.04) and Sophie Allen (2:14.64) will join her in the center lanes.

Sweden's Stina Gardell (2:14.65), South Africa's Mandy Loots (2:15.11), South Africa's Kathryn Meaklim (2:15.53) and Sweden's Ida Sandin (2:15.64) wrapped up the final field.

Men's 400 freestyle
Tunisia's Ous Mellouli earned the top seed in the middle distance event with a time of 3:46.16, while Germany's Paul Biedermann (3:46.42) and Pal Joensen of the Faroes Islands (3:47.14) finished second and third.

Denmark's Mads Glaesner (3:47.27), Australia's Nicholas Ffrost (3:51.89), Australia's Robert Hurley (3:52.82), Robert Margalis of the U.S. (3:53.80) and Great Britain's Xaiver Mohammed (3:54.28) completed the top eight.

Women's 50 freestyle
Sweden's Therese Alshammar led the way with a time of 24.45, while Australia's Marieke Guehrer (24.59), Sweden's Claire Hedenskog (24.67) and Finland's Hanna-Maria Seppala (24.76) placed second through fourth.

Venezuela's Arlene Semeco (24.78), Australia's Alice Mills (24.95), Sweden's Josefin Lillhage (24.96) and Brazil's Tatiana Lemos-Barbosa (24.98) made up the rest of the finale.

Men's 200 breaststroke
Germany's Marco Koch touched first in 2:09.58, while Ukraine's Igor Borysik (2:09.91), Japan's Kazuki Otsuka (2:09.99) and Sweden's Martin Gustafsson (2:10.19) captured second through fourth.

Kazakhstan's Vlad Polyakov (2:10.27), Australia's Christian Sprenger (2:10.95), Japan's Ryo Tateishi (2:11.36) and Lithuania's Giedrius Titenis (2:13.73) grabbed the other transfer spots.

Men's 100 IM
Nick Brunelli of the U.S. earned lane four with a time of 54.07, while South Africa's Darian Townsend (54.22), Lithuania's Vytautas Janusaitis (54.90) and Brazil's Diogo Yabe (55.67) finished second through fourth.

Japan's Masayuki Kishida (55.89), Tunisia's Ous Mellouli (56.16), Great Britain's Ryan Bennett (56.20) and Austria's Martin Spitzer (56.43) claimed the rest of the top eight spots.

Women's 200 backstroke
Japan's Tomoyo Fukuda picked up the top seed in 2:09.68, while Denmark's Elspa Morkore (2:10.68), New Zealand's Melissa Ingram (2:11.07) and Australia's Sophie Edington (2:11.16) rounded out the top four.

Denmark's Pernille Larsen (2:12.62), Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic (2:12.98), Sweden's Eleonor Lindborg (2:13.27) and Hong Kong's Yin Yan Lau (2:14.28) were among the top eight in the event.

Men's 50 butterfly
Australia's Matthew Jaukovic nearly cleared 23 seconds again with a time of 23.02. South Africa's Lyndon Ferns placed second in 23.26 along with Fred Bousquet (23.26), while Japan's Kohei Kawamoto took fourth in 23.28.

Russia's Evgeny Korotyshkin (23.44), Croatia's Mario Todorovic (23.45), Australia's Chris Wright (23.74) and Japan's Masayuki Kishida (23.75) made up the rest of the championship finale.
