Virginia v. Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Kentucky. November 7. THE Virginia men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Kentucky.

The women got things started off with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Mei Christensen, Katherine McDonnell, Lauren Smart and Kristen Wallace finished with a winning time of 1:42.76.

Virginia went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free and 200 free. In the 1000, third-year Jenna Harris won the race in a time of 9:57.38 while teammates Claire Galdun (10:06.29) and Katya Bachrouche (10:07.89) placed second and third, respectively. In the 200, second-year Liz Shaw took first-place honors (1:49.81) with Jen Narum (1:51.40) placing second and rookie Joanna Thomas finishing third (1:51.73).

Megan Evo was a double-event winner in the 200 IM (2:02.51) and 100 free (51.30) for Virginia, while Christesnsen went on to win the 200 back (1:57.48)

The Cavalier men also claimed victory in the 200 medley relay team with Eric Olesen, Ryan Hurley, Lee Robertson and Peter Geissinger touching at 1:30.41.

The men also went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free. Darren Ankosko won the race in 9:17.43 while John Snawerdt (9:28.48) placed second and Garrett Wren (9:30.26) third. Ankosko picked up his second victory in the 500 free in a time of 4:31.12, with Taylor Smith (4:31.57) and Matt McLean (4:33.52) placing second and third, respectively.

Other event winners for the Virginia men included McLean in the 200 free (1:38.21), John Azar in the 200 IM (1:50.54), Scot Robison in the 100 free (44.75) and David Wren in the 200 back (1:49.31).
