Illinois v. Illinois State

NORMAL, Illinois. November 7. THE Fighting Illini defeated Illinois State, 194-106, to keep their undefeated record alive. Junior CeCe Marizu set a pool record in the 100 back (58.07) while freshman Brittany McGowan set a pool record in the 200 fly (2:04.88) to help their team finish out the fall schedule 4-0.

"Overall I was very happy with how the team came out and competed," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "The team was very sharp and worked the details well."

The Orange and Blue took titles in 13 out of 16 events. Multiple Illini swept their events including Marizu for the second week in a row. Marizu swam to event titles in both the 100 back (58.07) and 200 back (2:05.95). McGowan followed in Marizu's steps by sweeping the butterfly events with titles in both the 100 fly (57.30) and 200 fly (2:04.88).

Also taking titles at the today's meet were juniors Amy Forsberg in the 200 free (1:55.85) and Amy Johnson in the 100 breast (1:06.73). Sophomore Ann Miller also claimed a title in the 400 IM (4:33.67). Freshmen Kristen Manias and Laura Adrian earned event titles in the 50 free (24.43) and 100 free (53.34), respectively.

"Today's win was a total team effort," Novitsky said. "Everyone came in and raced well, which is what we wanted to do coming off a two week break."

Diver Britni Fisher continued her impressive freshman season with a score of 269.40 in the one-meter board to take first place. She had another strong showing in the three-meter board with a score of 252.82, also taking first place.
