Providence vs. Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, connecticut, November 2. THE Providence College swimming and diving teams traveled to Fairfield, Conn. on Saturday, November 1 to take on the Fairfield University Stags. Despite earning their highest point tally on the season, the women fell, 182-112. Led by junior Mathew Card (Bow, N.H.), the Friar men earned their second win of the season, defeating the Stags, 174-126.

Card earned three individual first place finishes on the day, taking the 200-meter freestyle (2:01.55), the 100-meter freestyle (53.94), and the 400-meter freestyle (4:27.69). He was also a member of the first-place-finishing 400-meter freestyle relay team, along with classmate Mike Loftis (Branford, Conn.), senior Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.), and freshman Matt Green (Westfield, N.J.).

On the women's side, four Friars earned individual wins on the day. Sophomore Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) took the 800-meter freestyle in a time of 9:37.98. Freshman Caroline Caliri (Marblehead, Mass.) won the 50-meter freestyle (28.60), senior Lauren Sepe (Warwick, R.I.) took the 200-meter IM (2:36.17), and junior Ryann Dillon (Downington, Pa.) captured the day's first diving event with 119.85 points.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 8 when they travel to Kingston, R.I. to take on the University of Rhode Island and Montclair State University. Events are set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
