Duquesne vs. Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, November 1. THE Bucknell men's swimming & diving team improved to 2-0 in dual meets this season, defeating the Duquesne Dukes, 158-130, on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Kinney Natatorium. Bison senior co-captain Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) won two individual events and was the leadoff man on Bucknell's victorious 200-yard medley relay team. Classmate Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Kawczenski combined with Nathaniel Frye (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area), Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) to win the 200 medley relay in one minutes, 35.33 seconds, 2.19 seconds ahead of the top team from Duquesne. Kawczenski would go on to capture first in the 100 back (52.20 seconds) and the 50 free (21.45), and second in the 100 free (47.23), just behind Duquesne's Edward LeBlacn (46.92). In diving, Manning won the one-meter dive with a score of 236.92, before capturing the three-meter with a 235.43.

Bison sophomore Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakewood Regional) won the 200 back (1:54.70) and freshman Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) finished first in the 500 free (4:40.26). DeLeon also took second in the 200 fly (1:59.48), behind the Dukes' Dan Doyle (1:58.91), while Podniesinski placed third in the 200 IM (1:59.42) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:01.80).

The Bison return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 8, hosting a trio of Patriot League teams. American, Lafayette and Navy will visit Kinney Natatorium at 2 p.m.
