Eastern Michigan vs. Bowling Green State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, November 1. AFTER a tough loss to Eastern Michigan last night, the BGSU Falcons (1-1) triumphed over the Ball State Cardinals (0-2), this afternoon winning the meet 160-140.

The Falcons took first place finishes in ten out of the 16 events and were never beaten out of the top three places in the remaining events.

The Falcons started off the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay that consisted of teammates Alisha Yee, Meg Richardson, Sarah Burston, and Carrie Enright touching in at 1:49.15.

The Orange and Brown then went on a winning streak for the next three events. Megan Bomicino dropped two seconds off her time from last night in the 1000 yard freestyle, coming in at 10:31.41. Next, Jennifer Beatty swam her way to first place in the 200 yard freestyle, with a time of 1:56.74. Finishing the three race winning streak was Sami Jordan and Alisha Yee taking a one-two win in the 100 yard backstroke; Jordan touching in first at 58.88 and Yee following close behind with a time of 59.59.

Jordan and Yee will take the one-two finish again later in the meet in the 200 yard backstroke; Jordan at 2:07.48 and Yee at 2:08.02.

Not allowing the Falcons to fall out of the top three, Amanda Rom took a third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.61.

BGSU then went on to take the first place finish and the third place finish in 200 yard butterfly. Vicky Yu kicking her way into the top spot with a time of 2:05.48 and Bomicino in third with a time of2:13.22, dropping two seconds off her time from last night. Later in the meet, Yu again took first place in 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.71 and the 100 yard butterfly time of 57.78.

The 50 yard freestyle came next giving the Falcons the top three place finishes. Enright sprinted into first at 24.77, Frankie Houck in second at 24.87, and Sarah Reinick in third with a time of 24.93.

Yee gave another strong performance in the 200 yard individual medley, taking the top spot with a time of 2:12.18. Sophomore Sarah Burston and freshman Katie Womack also gave a notable performance in the 200 yard I.M. finishing in the third and fourth spots.

Divers Molly Wood, Katherine Shannon and Stephanie Saliga also added to the Falcons win over BSU. Wood took first in the 3-meter dive and second in the 1-meter, Shannon took third place in both the 1-meter and the 3 meter, and Saliga fourth in each of the diving events.

The Orange and Brown 400 yard freestyle relay team of Houck, Andrea Brown, Bomicino, and Jordan ended the meet successfully taking top honors with a time of 3:35.36.

The BGSU Falcons dive into the pool again next weekend, on Friday, November 1, 2008, in Athens, Ohio against Ohio University at 5:00 p.m.
