Kansas vs. Missouri

COLUMBIA, Missouri, October 29. THE Mizzou women's swimming and diving team soundly defeated their first Big 12 competition of the season as they bested the Kansas Jayhawks Friday night in the annual M&I Bank Border Showdown, 165.00-129.00.

The women won 11 events en route to their sixth consecutive victory over the Jayhawks.

The Tigers found victory almost instantly, as the 200 medley relay team of Cassie Cunningham, Rachel Ripley, Alexis Spivak and Lisa Nathanson placed first with a time of 1:43.51. The Mizzou team of Dominique Bouchard, Emy DiBenigno, Andrea Marko, and Francie Szostak placed second in 1:46.04

Stephanie Rovig rewrote the record books with her first-place finish in the 1000 free. Her time of 10:00.34 stands third all-time in school history.

Mizzou took the top two spots in the 200 free. Francie Szostak placed first in 1:50.02, and that time stands sixth overall in the school record books. Sydney Schaefer tied with Morgan Sharp of Kansas for second with a time of 1:52.36.

In the 100 back, Dominique Bouchard took first place with a time of 55.83, while Cassie Cunningham finished third in 57.14. Bouchard's time stands seventh overall in University history.

Mizzou also placed first and third in the 100 breast, as Rachel Ripley and Emy DiBenigno swam 1:04.75 and 1:04.99, respectively. Melissa Jamerson then took first on the next event, the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:04.47.

In the 50 free, Lisa Nathanson took first in 23.68, while Sasha Menu Courey placed second in 24.30.

After a short break, the Tigers returned to both the pool and their winning ways. Lisa Nathanson swam the 100 free in 51.64 to clinch first place, and Stephanie Rovig placed second in 51.75.

Dominique Bouchard set her second record of the day in the 200 back, as her first-place time of 1:59.57 puts her at fourth all-time in the record books. She followed that up with a first place finish in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:24.68.

The Tiger women next face Arkansas and South Carolina in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday, Nov. 5.
