New Orleans vs. Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Illinois, October 31. THE SIU swimming and diving team opened their home season with a win over New Orleans.

SIU won out 24 out of 32 events giving them 164 points over UNO who scored just 121 points.

The women and men kicked off the meet with victories in the 400 medley relay and Jennifer Kwok and Matt Parsons took first place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.76 and 9:38.57 respectively.

"I felt like they raced which I was very pleased about that" Head coach Rick Walker said. "The men and women both really stepped up and they raced like it meant something."

The Salukis continued their success as Isabel Madeira won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.45 and Dennis Hedo took first for the men with a time of 1:42.12.

Kelly Dvorak took home two first in the 100 yard freestyle (58.02) and 200 yard backstroke (2:08.82) and Marcela Teixeria was also victorious in two events, the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.23) and 200 yard backstroke (2:21.97) Kwok and Parsons also continued their success in the meet as they swept the 500 yard freestyle with times of 5:12.47 and 4:40.00 respectfully.

Also taking home individual titles were Jameson Kuper in the 100 yard breaststroke (58.69) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:06.27), Justin Wolfe in the 200 yard breaststroke (1:51.92), Therese Mattsson in the 50 yard freestyle (24.24) and 100 yard freestyle (51.84), Dennis Hedo in the 50 yard freestyle (21.07) and 100 yard freestyle (46.79), Emily Gable in the 1 meter dive (225.40) and 3 meter dive (241.51), Justin Ruszkowski (295.65), Alex Marrucho in the 200 yard backstroke (1:50.93), Kasey Fernandez 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.23), Justin Ruszkowski in the 3 meter dive (307.50),

The Salukis continue their season on Nov. 11 when the men's squad faced Missouri at home.
