TCU vs. BYU

FORT WORTH, Texas, October 30. SENIOR diver R.J. Hesselberg set a new TCU three-meter diving record Thursday in the Horned Frogs' loss to BYU in the first Mountain West Conference meet of the year. For the meet, the Cougars slipped past both the TCU men's and women's squads, 153-147 and 182-118, respectively.

Hesselberg, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, surpassed his previous score of 359.80 to win a MWC individual championship last spring with a 380.10 tally in the three-meter dive Thursday. The reigning MWC Male Diver of the Year topped fellow Frog teammate Kyle Callens (338.92). However, the sophomore from Deer Park, Texas would earn his first win of the season in the one-meter diving with a score of 300.60.

For the rest of the men's club, junior Josh Bagby and sophomore Edgar Peyro led the squad with two wins a piece. Bagby took care of the 50-free (21.16) and 100-free (46.78), while Peyro came up big for the Frogs late in the meet to top the field in the 200-breast (2:10.08) and the 200-IM (1:55.36).

Sophomore Jeff Gettel also continues to enjoy early success in the 200-back this season, winning the event for the second time with a clocking of 1:51.33.

For the women's side, senior Katie Rosen claimed both TCU swimming event wins, snaring the 100-breast with a time of 1:06.37 and pacing the field in the 200-breast at 2:21.96. Senior Cheryl Townsend enjoyed two runner-up finishes in both the 200-IM (2:12.10) and 200-back (2:07.86).
