Jason Lezak to Headline ASU Swimming Dinner Gala

TEMPE, Arizona, November 21. OLYMPIC gold medalist Jason Lezak headlines the first annual Arizona State Swimming Dinner Gala. The event will help raise money to support ASU swimming. It takes place on Saturday, November 22 at the Scottsdale Plaza Hotel.

Along with Lezak, who was one of this summer's Olympic heroes after his remarkable leg in the 400m freestyle relay, other notable faces in USA swimming will also speak at the event. 2008 silver medalist Lacey Nymeyer, Olympic great Amy Van Dyken, U.S. Olympic coach Frank Busch and former Olympic and ASU head coach Ron Johnson will also speak at the event, along with Lezak.

The event will take place at the Scottsdale Plaza Hotel on Saturday November 22. Cocktails and a silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to start at 7:00. Proceeds from the gala will directly support ASU swimming. ASU Swimming enjoys a strong tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics having 24 Academic All-Americans and 49 Olympians.

In addition to the guest speakers, there will be a silent auction, live auction, raffle drawings and door prizes. Sponsorship tables are $1,500, $2,500 and $3,500. Individual tickets are $150.

Funding for the ASU men's swimming program was discontinued by the Arizona State University intercollegiate sports budget in May 2008. By July, friends of the program mobilized and secured the program's reinstatement. The Sun Devils Swimming Association is an established 501c3 that will ensure the success of both men and women's swimming at ASU. Their mission is to establish an endowment of at least $7 million in cooperation with the university to ensure the permanent operation of the swimming program at the school.
