Jose Finkel Trophy: Luiz Arapiraca Sets 800 Free Meet Record

SAO PAULO, Brazil, September 6. LUIZ Arapiraca took down the meet record in the men's 800 free at the Jose Finkel Trophy. Arapiraca clocked a time of 8:10.34 to set the standard.

"I will do everything to go to Rome [World Championships]," Arapiraca told meet organizers in a rough translation. "Today went well and gave me morale moving into the future."

Meanwhile, Mariana Katsuno (33.06) and Felipe Silva (28.36) won their respective 50 breaststroke events.

Joanna Maranhao took home the women's 200 fly in 2:14.77, while Kaio Almeida grabbed the men's 200 fly in 1:57.45.

"I am needing rest, and will take it soon after this meet," Almeida told meet organizers when asked about swimming after Beijing. "I will take some leave soon, but I do not know how many days I will take off."

Ana Marcela Cunha touched first in the women's 1500 free with a time of 17:12.95 to close out individual winning on the day.
