NCAA Div. I: Virginia Men and Women Down James Madison

Oct. 20. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – THE University of Virginia men's and women's swimming and diving teams both improved to 2-0 on the season with victories
over James Madison on Friday (October 20) at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Cavalier men posted a 131-99 victory over James Madison, while the Virginia women won 139-98 for their 22nd consecutive win. James
Madison's men's and women's teams fall to 1-2 and 2-1, respectively.

The Virginia men won the first nine events before swimming the final four events as exhibitions. SSophomore Mike Wheeler (Lisbon, Md./McDonough)
won two events for the Cavaliers. Wheeler swam the butterfly leg on UVa's winning 400-yard medley relay team that posted a time of 3:27.63 and he also won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:05.60.

Soph Guy Yimsomruay (Bangkok, Thailand/Germantown Academy) was also a double winner for Virginia. He also swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay and took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.62). Freshman Luke Wagner (Greenwood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and junior Matt Lee(Munster, Ind./Munster) swam the other two legs on the winning relay.

Other men's event winners for the 'Hoos included Troy Johnson(St. George, Utah/Dixie) in the 200-yard free (1:40.97); Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./Bolles School) in the 50-yard free (21.03); Joe Piorkowski (Easton, Pa./Easton) in the one-meter diving
(267.83 points); Jonathan Haag (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) in the 100 freestyle (46.87); and Chris Mousetis (Newport News,Va./Woodside) in the 200-yard back (1:54.96).

The Virginia women won nine of the first 10 events en route to a 139-98 victory over the Dukes. Sophomore Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje,Macedonia/Trinity Prep) won a pair of individual events for the Cavaliers. She posted a winning time of 10:00.51 in the 1000-yard freestyle and was also victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.45). Frosh Jenna Bridges (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) also recorded two wins for Virginia. Bridges anchored UVa's winning 400-yard medley relay (3:54.78) and also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.82. Senior Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) and junior Caitlin Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) swam legs on UVa's winning 400 medley relay as well.

Other women's event winners for the Cavaliers included: Lindsey Crane (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) in the 50 free (24.77); Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) in the 400-yard individual medley
(4:20.85); Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) in the one-meter diving (223.80 points); and Quinn Amesbury (Vienna, Va./James Madison) in the 500 free (5:06.07).

The Virginia men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, October 28 when they open ACC competition by hosting Clemson at 4:00 p.m. at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center at 5:00 p.m.
