USA Swimming Sectionals, Brown Deer: Meet Shuts Curtain

BROWN DEER, Wisconsin, July 20. THE final night of swimming took place during the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Brown Deer this weekend.

Stephanie Sarandos of Waukesha Express started the session with a triumph in the women's 200 IM when she hit the wall in 2:20.26. Marissa Clapp placed second in 2:21.54, while Lillian Falconer of Chicago Latin took third in 2:23.04.

The men's 200 IM went to Paul Gordon of Sioux Falls with a 2:07.12. Joshua Griffey of Minnesota finished second in 2:09.18, while Matt Elliott, 15, of Peoria Area touched third in 2:09.28.

Aja Van Hout, 15, of Badger held off Ashley Dell of Lake Forest, 17:13.77 to 17:14.37, for the women's 1500 free title. Danielle Beckwith of Badger wound up third in 17:19.94.

In a quicker event, Betsy Webb, 17, of New Trier captured the women's 50 free in 26.37. Rachel Bootsma, 14, of Aquajets finished second in 26.95 with Julie Debruin of Maverick taking third in 27.03.

Schroeder YMCA went 1-2 in the men's 50 free. Adam Mania won in 23.06, while Josh Baseheart took second in 23.56. Wes Lagerhausen of Waukesha Express snared third in 23.66.

Nico Zebley of Minnesota dominated the men's 1500 free in 16:17.99, while Mitch Stoehr, 16, of Lake Forest (16:32.50) and Ryan Downey, 17, of Express (16:35.11) rounded out the top three.

The 400 medley relays finished the meet. Minnesota's Andrea Hanson, Molly Belk, Danielle Ridder and Alison Eggers captured the women's title in 4:21.82, while Schroeder's Mania, Jason Castillo, Chase Gravengood and Bert Cebertowicz won the men's crown in 3:54.46.
