USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Alex Forrester Ties Tracy Caulkins Meet Record; Vlad Polyakov Breaks His Own

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 20. IT isn't every day that a Tracy Caulkins' record from 1983 is tied or broken, but today was just such a day thanks to Alex Forrester. Also, Vlad Polyakov took down one of his meet records during the last session at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Fort Lauderdale.

Forrester, 16, of Bluefish began the final night of swimming with an ultimate performance when she tied Tracy Caulkins' meet record with a time of 2:13.46 in the women's 200 fly. Caulkins had previously set the standard back in 1983. Forrester's teammate Laura Sogar, 17, finished second in 2:17.28 with Ana Anaya, 15, of Metro Aquatics taking third in 2:17.71.

In the men's 200 breast, Polyakov of Coral Springs broke his own meet record with a time of 2:12.15. That swim eclipsed the 2:13.09 he set last year. Bradley Ally of Pine Crest took second in 2:14.52, while Sandeep Sejwal of Pine Crest placed third in 2:18.98.

Omar Pinzon of Gator won the men's 200 fly in 2:02.80, while James Walsh of Tidewater (2:03.21) and Jorge Ospina of Pine Crest (2:06.34) rounded out the top three.

Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of The Bolles School earned the women's 100 free title in 56.44, while Katie Wyld took second in 56.91. Kaitlin Frehling, 16, of Saint Petersburg placed third in 58.19.

Gideon Louw of Indian River followed with a winning readout of 49.33 in the men's 100 free. Pine Crest then went 2-3 as Jeff Raymond (51.85) and Shaune Fraser (52.11) finished behind Louw.

Madison Parker of Gator claimed the women's 800 free in 8:55.01, while Sienna DeVenuto, 16, of Pine Crest touched second in 8:57.75 with Jenna Gallo, 17, of Saint Andrew's finishing third in 8:59.30.

Megan Onstott of Nitro grabbed the women's 200 breast in 2:35.98, beating out Kristen Connors of Bluefish (2:36.44) and Sarah Giovannoni of Metro (2:37.79), while David Russell of Bluefish topped the men's 200 back in 2:05.46. He touched out Pinzon, who took second in 2:05.96 with Chris Rogers of Bluefish winding up third in 2:07.08.

Cara Vogel, 17, of Bluefish snagged the women's 200 back in 2:20.12 with Lauren Piper, 16, of Saint Petersburg finishing second in 2:21.27. Anna Senko, 16, of Bluefish clinched third in 2:22.45.

The men's 1500 free featured some of the best times of the weekend across the country. Tyler Sell, 16, of the Comets won in 15:44.44, while Scott Korotkin touched second in 15:54.21. Scott Thompson placed third in 15:58.87.
